In 2001 Wijnne Barends established an intensive collaboration with Spliethoff’ Bevrachtingskantoor in Amsterdam. Two years later, Spliethoff becomes its main shareholder. Wijnne Barends operates as an independent unit within the Spliethoff Group, which comprises Spliethoff’s Bevrachtingskantoor, BigLift Shipping (worldwide specialist in transporting very heavy cargo by sea), Sevenstar Yacht Transport and Transfennica (RoRo liner services in North-western Europe). Wijnne Barends is the Short Sea Specialist in the Spliethoff Group.

All storage and transhipment activities in and around Delfzijl are arranged for by Wijnne Barends Logistics (formerly: Terminal Delfzijl B.V.) as a subsidiary of Wijnne Barends. The company also works closely with the Russian company Boreal in Euroarctic Shipping & Forwarding B.V. to be able to offer its customers door-to-door services in the transport and storage and transhipment of goods worldwide.
